You’ll also want to take in the Jesse James Home, where the infamous outlaw met his fate in 1882.

3. Truman Farm Home – Grandview. 

Harry S. Truman’s grandmother built this quaint home on 600 acres in 1890, and the future president himself spent his youth working the land. Take a self-guided tour or book a guided tour before limited availability is booked up.

4. Cave Spring – Kansas City. 

This day-trip treasure is a pleasant mix of education and relaxation. After a visit to the interpretive center to learn about the area’s ecological and historical significance, guests can hike the land, visit the cave and habitat pond, or just kick back for a picnic.

5. Union Station – Kansas City. 

Amtrak passengers rolling into KC not only enjoy the fully restored station architecture but can also take in interactive exhibits, shops and restaurants, and occasional traveling displays, such as renowned art exhibits and visiting museum installations.
